Before You Leave, Turn Me On My Side

“Before You Leave, Turn Me On My Side” explores the concept and gesture of struggling to hold onto what is fleeting, fear of loss, and the 21st century recontextualization of ephemerality. The works in the show function as experimental venues that investigate the attempts made by many individuals to prolong the lifespans of objects, eras, experiences, cultural relevance, and loved ones. These efforts are made on foundations of love and the fear of absence; aiming to distance inevitable damage. Clutching and clinging are very innate responses to the threat of potential loss, it is only in circumstances where intervention will yield no result that this concept enters a general framework of insanity and absurdity, solely for the sake of preservation. The reasons for taking these actions are not questionable. The gestures themselves are bewildering and intriguing in their obsolescence, warranting further examination and exploration within the context of contemporary art.
